Updated: 7 September 2026 ## Practice a little, often Brick Buddies is a maths practice app for children working on number skills in Australian Grades 1–6. It uses colourful blocks, repeated practice with different numbers, and Australian landmarks that are built as questions are completed. Practice mixes activities within the chosen grade. You can also select a single activity. ## What children can do - Practice counting and place value, addition, subtraction, number bonds, patterns, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages as available in their grade. - Answer using choices where enabled, an on-screen number pad or a physical keyboard. - Use optional working boxes for larger calculations. Children enter their own carrying, regrouping and quotient digits; the working is not filled in for them. - Choose between grouping and short division where available. Each has its own screen. - Earn a landmark building step for a completed question, including after correcting a mistake. Each landmark takes 80 steps. - Hints are currently unavailable. ## For grown-ups Use Grown-ups to change settings, add children and read grade resources. Names or nicknames and emoji icons help families switch between children. The website uses a grown-up family account to save profiles and landmarks across devices, with automatic database backups. The native iPhone build keeps separate local saves. There is no public leaderboard, messaging or in-app advertising. ## Scope and availability This app provides selected number practice, not a complete Australian Curriculum course, school assessment or guarantee of learning outcomes. Teachers and schools may teach different methods and sequences. The public website works in a supported browser and can be added to an iPhone Home Screen. The website needs an internet connection to load; a Home Screen shortcut does not guarantee offline access. A separately installed native iPhone build stores its own data and includes practice for offline use. There is no public App Store download linked here. ## Information for search engines and AI tools Public information about the app is available as readable pages and plain-text summaries. Updated: 7 September 2026 ## Who this policy is for This policy covers the Brick Buddies family-account website and its separate native iPhone build. It is written for parents, carers and educators. An adult should set up a family account and help children use the app. Use a nickname rather than a full name. Do not enter sensitive information or contact details in a child’s name field. ## Family accounts and the information we save On the website, these records are sent over HTTPS to the family database when you sign in and use the app. They are used to provide your account, restore profiles, preferences and landmarks across devices. Family records are not public. Working-pad notes and the current round are temporary and restart on reload. - Account details: a family username, a salted password hash, a hashed recovery code, sign-in sessions and account creation/update times. We do not require an email address or save your password or recovery code as readable text. - Child profiles: a name or nickname, optional emoji and generated identifier. Up to 20 child profiles can belong to one family. - Preferences: grade, number range, round length, answer style and other practice settings. The active child is selected separately on each device. - Learning records: this version does not record new answer histories or use learning reports to choose questions. Up to 600 earlier attempts per child may remain in existing saves, including questions, results, dates, grade, difficulty and earlier hint use. These records are not shown or used by Practice. - Landmarks: earned building steps, collection progress and reset information. - Earlier transfers may have a source-device identifier retained in existing saves. Import and download controls are no longer available. ## Device storage, cookies and offline changes The website keeps a local cache and a queue of changes in browser storage. A necessary HttpOnly session cookie keeps the family signed in for up to 30 days. We use no advertising or analytics cookies. If a loaded page loses its connection, it can keep queued changes on the device and send it when connected again. Opening or reloading the website needs an internet connection. A save is backed up only after it reaches the server and the backup process copies it. Signing out removes this browser’s cache for that family after pending changes are saved. Other signed-in devices can retain their own caches. Clearing browser data removes local copies but does not delete the online family account. One tab per browser can edit family saves at a time. The separate native iPhone build uses app preferences on the device and does not currently sync with the website. The old website addresses also have separate saves. The current app does not offer file import or download. ## Hosting and backups Fly.io hosts the application and its SQLite database on a persistent volume in Sydney. Litestream copies database changes to a private Tigris backup bucket, configured for Sydney. We target a backup sync every 60 seconds and use daily volume snapshots as an additional recovery source. These are recovery systems, not a guarantee against all data loss or service interruption. Backup history targets 30 days. Expiry is periodic, and the newest recovery snapshot may remain longer until a replacement exists. Deleted records may therefore remain in restricted backups for a period. Backups are used for recovery, not ordinary access or advertising. Requests to the hosting services can include IP address, requested URL, browser information, time and diagnostic information. Sign-in abuse controls store short-lived keyed hashes of IP addresses and usernames with attempt counts. App logs avoid passwords, recovery codes and child record contents. Although the database and backup locations are configured for Sydney, providers use global networking, support and operational systems. Technical information may be processed outside Australia. Provider terms and privacy practices also apply. Public llms.txt and policy pages describe the app; they do not expose private family data. ## External resources Curriculum links open external services with their own privacy practices; the app does not attach saved child profiles or learning records to those links. ## Access and deletion - View profiles in Grown-ups → Kids. You can add children and change their picture. Profile names cannot currently be edited. - Contact the operator about access to records held for your family. Keep any previously downloaded files private. - Delete the entire family account in Settings using the family password. This removes live profiles, learning, landmarks and sessions. Restricted backups expire under the retention described above. Other devices and exported files may still hold copies; clear their website data too. - There is no individual child-delete or practice-only reset control yet. Contact the operator for help with records we hold. - Clearing data for an old website or deleting the native app can remove its local saves. Device backups and exports are controlled separately. We cannot remotely recover records that were only saved locally. ## Security and retention Accounts and saved data remain until deleted. Earlier learning records may remain in existing saves; this version does not add new attempts. Expired sessions and rate-limit records are removed during subsequent authentication requests. Family accounts use hashed passwords and recovery codes, secure cookies, request validation and family-scoped database access. Authorised operators and hosting providers may access data when necessary to run, secure or restore the service. No system can guarantee complete security. Children do not have separate passwords or a parent PIN. Anyone using a signed-in browser can switch children, see landmarks and change settings. Use the device’s screen lock and sign out on shared devices. Browser caches are not a separate encrypted vault. Keep your family username, password and recovery code safe. Resetting a password with the code revokes existing sessions and produces a new code. There is no email reset. If you lose both the password and recovery code, we cannot promise to restore access. ## Contact, requests and complaints An adult can contact the operator about privacy, access, correction, deletion or a concern. Describe the issue without sending a child’s full name, password, recovery code or unnecessary learning records. If you contact us, we receive the contact details and content you choose to send and use them to answer, investigate or meet applicable obligations. We retain correspondence only as needed for those purposes and may disclose information where legally required. Please read them before using the app. If you are a parent, carer or educator, help children use the app appropriately; children should not be asked to manage legal or privacy decisions themselves. You may use the app for personal, family and classroom maths practice. The website requires a family account managed by a grown-up. Child profiles within that family do not have separate sign-ins. ## Educational purpose Brick Buddies offers selected Australian Grades 1–6 number practice and general information for adults. It does not replace teaching, a complete curriculum, professional advice or a formal assessment. Methods, examples and content may contain mistakes or may differ from those taught at school. Discuss unfamiliar methods with a teacher and let us know about errors. We do not promise a particular learning outcome. Hints are currently unavailable. ## Children, devices and saved data Adults should choose suitable grades and settings, supervise external links and avoid entering sensitive information. Use a nickname where possible. Keep the family sign-in and recovery code safe. Anyone using a signed-in device can access its child profiles. The separate native build and old website addresses keep separate local saves. Profiles, settings and landmarks sync to the family account with automatic database backups. Unsent changes and local-only saves can still be lost if storage is cleared or a device fails. Backups do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or recovery of every change. Virtual landmark steps have no cash value, cannot be traded and do not represent a physical product or prize. ## Fair use and app content Use the app lawfully. Do not try to disrupt it, bypass access controls, interfere with another person’s information or present the app as your own product. This does not restrict rights you have under applicable law or an open-source licence. The app’s branding and original content remain the property of their respective rights holders. Personal and classroom use of the app is permitted; these terms do not transfer ownership or grant a general right to redistribute its artwork or code. Third-party software and fonts retain their own licences. Brick Buddies is an independent app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by LEGO, DUPLO, education authorities or the owners and operators of the landmarks shown. Landmark models are stylised learning rewards. ## Availability, links and changes Features and content may be updated, paused or removed as the app develops. We aim to keep it useful but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every browser, device or assistive technology. External curriculum and help resources are provided for convenience. Their operators control their content and availability, and their own terms and privacy policies apply. If these terms change, we will update this page and its date. Changes apply prospectively and do not remove rights that have already arisen. You can stop using the app at any time. ## Your consumer rights Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law where it applies. Updated: 7 September 2026 ## Our aim and current status We want children and the adults supporting them to be able to use Brick Buddies in ways that suit them. We use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a design and improvement reference. This is an accessibility notice, not a conformance certificate. We have not completed an independent, comprehensive WCAG audit and do not claim full A, AA or AAA conformance. Feature checks and layout tests do not establish complete accessibility. ## Ways to use the app - Use a physical keyboard or the on-screen number pad to enter answers. Tab moves between controls, Enter checks an answer and Backspace edits typed digits. Working boxes have their own keyboard and keypad support. - Choose written answers or multiple choice in Grown-ups → Settings. The available balance depends on grade and activity. - Controls include accessible names, visible keyboard focus and status messages for feedback. Dialogs use focus management and labelled controls. - The app honours the device’s reduced-motion preference for animations and transitions. - The interface adapts to phone, tablet and laptop screens, and working pads include space for phone safe areas. Browser zoom is not disabled. - Children enter carrying and regrouping themselves in optional working boxes. There is no timed question countdown. ## Known limitations - Some block diagrams, arrays, fraction pictures and landmark models rely on visual and spatial understanding. Text descriptions may not provide an equivalent experience for every task. - The complete app has not been verified with every screen reader, switch control, voice control or magnification setup. - Ordinary correct answers advance after a brief celebration. Completed landmarks wait for Continue. There is currently no manual-advance setting for ordinary answers, which may make their feedback harder to review with assistive technology. - Complex calculations can be dense on small screens. At enlarged text or zoom settings, scrolling may be needed. - Working-pad boxes use a custom keypad and may behave differently from a standard editable text field with some assistive technologies. - Hints are temporarily unavailable. Curriculum resources linked from Grown-ups are maintained by other organisations and may have different accessibility. ## If something is difficult to use Try the answer style in Grown-ups, the device’s reduced-motion setting, or a larger display if available. An adult or teacher can help choose another way to practice a skill. These options may help but do not replace fixing a barrier. To report an issue, contact the operator below. Tell us the page or maths activity, device and browser or app version, any assistive technology, and what you expected to happen. Screenshots are optional; remove children’s names and other personal information. Tell us if you need a response in a particular format. ## Ongoing improvements We review reported barriers and update this notice as features and testing change.
